Looks like a Shield bug from this angle, but I'm no expert!

Ahh, thank you :o)

I've now looked up shield bugs and learnt that they are also known as stink bugs and are eaten in Mexico because "their pungent odour gives the dish an aromatic flavour" - fascinating, but I think I'll leave them in the garden!
