It's only a small plant which I bought this summer but it has a couple of flowers on it now. Fingers crossed it survives the winter and comes back bigger and stronger next year.

Agree with Dotty, mine has a trunk with a circumference as big as my arm, almost.

Mine grows against a fence, the area is now covered with gravel and I noticed 2 shoots are growing in the raised bed about 3ft away from it. It also climbed up into the neighbours cherry tree last year, luckily they don't mind, phew!
Those 2 shoots are going to be potted up for my daughters garden as she has so much space to fill.

Don't worry too much HB. We've got one too and as its got a bit 'wild' to say the least I've been researching what to do. Apparently if you cut back in spring, a bit like Clematis, they respond in the same way...just hope that's right lol!

There are other varieties but, we have never managed to get them through the winter months unfortunately....

I cut mine back to the secondary stems, close to the main stem each year.
