I don't blame you me and my son has one, I had mine bought in, my son left his out and most of the leaves are dead, yet in a little town I know they had them over winter in the town bedding not a mark on them.

I lost my Windmill Palm this winter after it surviving outside for the past three years, just shows how severe the weather was!

What a shame Carole its heart braking when you care for plants then the weather comes along and kills them, it makes me wonder what to grow, if the weather is going to be to extremes for the future.

i live in southeast england would you advise leaving the palm in a pot/container in spring/summer and bring inside during winter.i was told you can plant them straight in to the garden but am unsure about this

Hi Detrementel you aske about the Canary Island I have mine in a large pot on the patio, I was told they were hardy so left it outside covered with a fleece bag during the winter, Im afraid it looks dead, so upset as it was a nice feature. I have cut it right down to base, but it hasn't shown any signs of recovery yet. So my advice would be to take indoors during the winter, hope yours does well!
