Julia, it was a bit naughty of me to have bought them. Let's call it my Easter present to myself ... :o)

One of my favourites too Shirley, not only pretty blossom in April but good autumn colour too. You have a fantastic bargain! They are usually about £20 around here …

Sheila, I realised they were bargains and couldn't believe they were being marked down as we were looking at plants. We actually went to buy a water butt .....

That’s so funny Shirley. Reminds me of when we went to buy an in-the-wall gas fire, and ended up with a lovely wall sculpture of trees (well, it was our Ruby anniversary)!

Sheila, I remember you writing on here about that! It was/is a lovely wall sculpture.

Now, I hope to plant this Prunus in the lawn and am wondering if I should remove a circle of turf, or just cut a cross of turf, fold t back, plant the tree and replace the turf. Any advice would be appreciated ... :o)

Thanks Shirley. I think you’d do best to remove a circle of turf, then the little tree will not be competing with the grass for water from the rain. It will look lovely. Once it’s settled in (maybe after a year?) you could plant little things in the ring like Anemone Blanda which aren’t thirsty!

Sheila, thanks for the advice, I shall cut a circle out on Monday (weather permitting) as we are out with daughter and partner tomorrow.

It was the voice of experience Shirley. In our last garden, our Amelanchier never did thrive, and I was told it was probably because it didn’t have enough water in its first year.

Sheila, more helpful info., thanks!

Pretty.

Ange, I hope it thrives here. Off to plant it now as heavy rain and wind is forecast for tomorrow... :o(

Oh, that'll make a nice change!

We had a sea fret late this afternoon ... horrible grey mist and cool too.

You learn a lot on here, it's so helpful.
Another pretty purchase, Shirley.

Thanks Kate ... we have a horrible wet day down here ... no gardening for me today!
