One of my favourite fruits.
Top tip for pommies - chicken or lamb taggine with pomegranate instead of dates or apricots.

Milky - the act of sitting there with a toothpick & Pomegranate is one of lifes great pleasures that few people indulge in nowadays. But they are so versatile in the kitchen. They're particularly suited to game, poultry & middle eastern dishes.

Mushybanna:

I really though they would grow in England...it is a very hardy shrub.
One thing though -- they need very high temps for them to fruit well. Much of the commercial pomegranate orchards are grown in the Central Valley of California where the temps are on average 90 - 100 degrees/ 32 - 38 degrees C. during the day in summer.

We very rarely get 90 and if we do its humid and stuffy its quite unbearable we have a different kind of heat to you .

Mushybanna:

Well, that's probably the reason why you don't grow pomegranates there...even though it's a hardy shrub.

We have humid to very humid weather here in summer. We have the monsoonal flow which starts at the end of June but mostly the beginning of July - Sept. which brings the moist air from Old Mexico. We've had heat-indices from this flow as high as 132 degrees F/ 56 degrees C. which can be so horrible and disgusting you can't imagine.

Unfortunately, we rarely receive the monsoonal rains...they mostly stay over the mountains and deserts.
