Ione:
This tree is pretty tropical, native to Southeast China. It would grow only as a houseplant in zone 7.

You're welcome.
It's a very commonly available houseplant...and will grow just as beautiful indoors...growing to 6 feet.
In the ground here in San Diego, CA. it grows to 40+ feet tall.

I had one of these in a pot and left it in the garden. The roots grew through the pot and now it is a massively beautiful tree with glorious foliage providing privacy from a neighbouring property. I'm worried that it is too close to our plumbing, probably 6 metres away from pipes - I don't want to cut it down and kill it! Any suggestions?????

This tree tends not to get into the plumbing. It's root-system is not so aggressive.
Do you live in a climate where it can grow outside all year?

Looks very interesting. I'm in zone 7. Would it grow here?
