Are they a type of sunflower?
8 Oct, 2009
Rudbeckia is the genus in the Asteraceae family, so same family as sunflower, aster, etc. The sunflower is genus Helianthus. This is one of the largest family of flowering plants best known for aster, sunflower and daisy.

Can you bring them in over winter GT or is this an annual variety?
9 Oct, 2009
I think its an annual variety. Hard to really get good info on rudbeckia if they are one or the other from any resource I've found. I may get them going earlier next year to get a better chance to set some seed. I'd love carrying my own over each year.

Me too GT.
I was wondering as I've read conflicting info on this variety. I wonder if it is just a really really tender perennial....why don't you lift one and give it a try? Or is it too late already?
9 Oct, 2009
Oh, too late. But I'll try next year. I've a much better space for bringing things in this year. We got a snow that ended everything a few weeks back, but now it barely freezes at night. Very strange warm weather.

Oh, too bad. Never mind. As you say....there is always next year. My roses need some of your snow......they are still blooming away and producing buds.....nobody has told them they are supposed to be going to sleep. All except the rugosas...they are obviously smarter than the highly cultivated varieties. :o)

Mine is still looking very summer like. A few blooms. I don't mind them trying to make summer conitnue. :-)
Such odd warm weather right now. The snow melted away, rainy afternoons. It should be below freezing all but midday.
