Thanks all!
DD - it certainly looks like it.
Delonix - if I was growing Salvia in SoCal I would be going for the proper exotic South American species!

I guess that's true. We grow so many species from Mexico to South America. These "exotic" species are so common here most people just ignore them. LOL!
Seriously, they are so widely grown because of their drought tolerance. They are all in full bloom now because of the really hot weather that just refuses to cool down here!

love this plant...she flowers for so long in my garden

Delonix - I have S.lasiantha budding up which is another winter blooming species from Central America.
Sandra - any of the S.microphylla, S.greggii or Salvia x jamensis are a good choice for long blooming and tend to be very hardy. If you have the space there are some really choice ones about.

do you have a lot of Salvia Meanie? I have only grown microphylla. A dear friend passed recently and I have been given a few of her plants, some of which are Salvia. I am not sure how hardy they are or how to care for them and would appreciate some advice. They are tucked up in my tunnel until I know more.

See my last couple of blogs Sandra!!!
Which Salvia have you got?

Love Salvias Meanie...this is a beauty

Motinot - if it proves hardy it will rank right up there as one of the best.

I think Salvia lasiantha is the very common one that grows into a pretty big shrub and flowers year-around. I'll have to take some photos of some...they're everywhere.
