When in full flower they are spectacular! In the Congo region of Africa (where native) they are called flame of the forest.

I bet they are. I can see why they got that name. I am suprised they allowed them into the country with such strict laws on bringing plants into the countries now .

Not sure where the Golden-yellow form came from originally, though. It's a grafted tree or grown from cuttings.

African Tulip tree is native to Central Africa. It's native to the equatorial regions. Most likely the golden-yellow variety was a chance seedling...this is why it's grafted or grown by cuttings.

When I have tried to find its native country it mentions south sub tropical forest in Africa also mentions Ghana.

Yes, it's native to many of the equatorial regions of Africa. The information on African Tulip trees on Wikipedia is incorrect. Wikipedia, almost anybody can add information. This is why is never very accurate.
