This tree flowers very well in late summer. It has a long flowering season here in San Diego, CA. Photo taken on Sept. 13, 2024.

It's a beautiful tree! Love to see them, such a striking form, with gorgeous bloom colour.

Bushbernie,
That’s sad that they can’t be grown there anymore.
I do love them! This tree can be in full bloom any month of the year here in San Diego. It depends on location and weather. My small tree once bloomed for 4 or 5 years continuously. It was cut to the ground in 2021, because of work to the wall, but is now 10 ft tall.

Kate,
Yes, this tree is spectacular in flower. Photos can never do it justice, unfortunately!
The unopened flower buds contain water.

I used to have a huge one here but sadly they are classified as a Class 3 pest here in Townsville and I cracked under pressure after receiving several complaints from neighbours about it.
You can't buy them here any more and our town council insist that you remove them from your property now!!
The reason for the classification is that they pose a lethal threat to our native stingless bee population and other insects.
Sad, as they put on a magnificent display of flowers!
