Spathodea campanulata - African Tulip Tree

Spathodea campanulata - African Tulip Tree (Spathodea campanulata - African Tulip Tree)

This is the first flower to develop on my very small, young African Tulip tree only 2 feet / 61cm tall. I've never seen this tree bloom this small before. I purchased this plant last year for only $4.00. Photo taken May 27, 2009.

It is unusual that it's blooming as such a small plant...typically they this tree starts to bloom when 5 feet / 1.6 meters tall.

Wow!! Such a stunning flower. It must love whatever care you are giving it Andy, to bloom so young.

Gilli:

It hasn't received any more attention than my thousand other plants. LOL.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photo!

If all of those cones are buds the potential is amazing! it really is the colour of flame!

Lori:

Yes, all the buds are going to be flowers. Usually, many flowers will bloom
at the same time. On large trees there are many dozens of buds. One of its common names is Flame tree...however, that's a very common name for Delonix regia also.
