I noticed dozens of new leaves growing where I chopped about a hundreds leaves back a couple of weeks ago. Mine is all done flowering for the season, though. I do however, see many still flowering around the city.

You definitely don't want to chop your plant back. It would take 5 or 6 years to recover in a pot.
