thanks terra. Its a difficult area mainly because its shady. Its also the last resting place of several beloved small pets.

Hydrangea petiolaris likes the shade, and reasonably moist soil.
That's one you could try... evergreen...
I do understand about the area having the graves.
Comforting that those precious pets are buried near to you. xxx
