The tough South African vine/shrub in mid winters bloom. I have actually been trying to rid my yard of it!

Tecomaria capensis is so widely grown here, also. They're all in full bloom. I like to see them in someone else's. They grow too fast and wild for me.

I get you. I've dug,pulled,chopped..I think I've made peace with it now.

When I hear how luxuriantly they grow in your climate, Stan and Andy, I feel sorry for my poor little fellow, stuck in a pot with the euphorbia!

Stan:
Yes, it's a very persistent plant, almost impossible to kill.
I hope the very strong winds did no damage to your garden. My mom said in Hayward yesterday the winds were so strong they were tearing things up and uprooting trees all around the SF Bay Area.
We had one of the worst nights, last night in San Diego. So much HAIL! At least 4 times. Many of my plants have huge holes in the leaves this morning. I think some of the hail stones were as big as marbles and covered the streets. It almost sounded like the windows were going to break! I know I'll see the extent of the hail damage to the plants in a couple of days. Tonight may be one of the coldest nights in San Diego since Jan. of 2007. It's very crazy weather!

Lori:
If you put your plant in a big pot it'll grow faster and larger.

It dipped to 37-39 depending on the weathersite. Windy for sure- but all i heard from the wind was "keeping away the frost"..and it did. Thursday morning should be a bit colder..but maybe not. Still on track for a 10b winter.
Croton in full leaf- I'm truly shocked. Potted Maridol looking not so great..plus I tripped and fell on the edge of it.That didnt help.
In ground Maridols still green like they should be!
ps,At Walmarts closed nursery? I saw a Mamy Croton in perfect condition outside. I would have bought it..

Glad to hear your croton and papaya is doing well. My papaya fruit have white latex oozing from the fruit, from all the hail last night. The papaya leaves have holes.
I actually think it'll be colder down here than in the SF Bay Area. It's only 45ºF outside at 12:00 p.m. I don't ever remember it being this cold in San Diego at this time of the day, ever! The snow level went down to an amazing 1,200 ft last night in many areas of Southern California. It snowed in the hills around Fallbrook (where all the avocados are grown) and Temecula, Lake Elsinore. You'll most likely see it on the TV News tonight. It also may get down close to freezing where I live (35ºF is forecasted). I've only had one night in Jan of 2007 when the temp hit 34ºF. (in 11 years here). The winter temps on Montezuma Mesa (where I live) very, very rarely drop below 41ºF.

And Happy New Year!

That's funny! We would love to grow this over here and you guys are trying to eradicate it!
I've been trying to work out if the plant in the top right of the photo is Beschorneria?

Agave attenuata. The woody trunked plant is Beaucarnea.
Tecomaria meanie is one of those plants you buy as your learning about plants- and way back it wasnt all that common. A couple of decades later, the state is using it next to freeways- EVERYPLACE.
Its getting like that here for the Agave too!

Meanie:
It's a very common plant. It grows super fast and gets very large. The flowers are beautiful and it blooms all year. There's several varieties which have shades of gold and yellow and a fuchsia-colored one which isn't as common.
