It's in flower - a bit like a lupin, I think.

Sssshhhh...I forgot its name, and had to scroll down my plant list until I found it! This is one of the plants I got at the 'Rare Plants Fair' a few weeks ago.

Ah thats better, just got the last of the knots out, won't be trying that again in a hurry......I like the lupin-look-a-like! :~)))) Oh bother...........!

I wanted something 'different' to go in my back garden - and this is it! Glad you like it, whatever its name is. lol.

A new one to me. Very nice...

Thanks - it's lucky I like it now it's in flower!!! It's quite tall, so it's just right in my back garden border.

Very nice.

It looks like a cytisus flower - lovely.

Yes - but a lot larger.
Thanks, both! :-))

This is a new one on me....very pretty!

That's what comes of going to a 'Rare Plant Fair'....:-)))))

No rare plant fairs in Scotland...remember, I checked!!
19 Apr, 2010
Ah - but Karen - you were going to see if there are any Plant Fairs via any Societies, weren't you! :-)))
19 Apr, 2010
Oh yes, there are lots of Scottish Rock Garden plant fairs which Scotsgran keeps me up to date with. I think I shall be visiting a lot more open gardens this year and hopefully get some unusual plants there.

There used to be a wonderful spring garden show in Dundee Ice Arena, and some of the plants I got there were lovely, but that seems to have disappeared! I don't know what's happening up here B. We used to have a Scottish Gardening magazine, that's disappeared too! :((

Funny though, last night my daughter and I were discussing this very thing and then I realised that the only two gardeners that I know of on my estate, that's me and my next door but one neighbour......are both English! mmmm....
20 Apr, 2010
I don't think I'd better say anything...do you? lol.
20 Apr, 2010
No, infact I wish I hadn't !!
20 Apr, 2010
LOL.......I think your idea of visiting open gardens is a really good one - I've found little gems at several plant stalls at them.
20 Apr, 2010
Yes, I got my lovely mertensis at an open garden. It wans't a SNGS one, just a local fundraiser. I'll be keeping my eyes open for more!
20 Apr, 2010
I failed with that. :-(((
20 Apr, 2010
Oh goodness, I wonder why? what kind of soil do you have?
20 Apr, 2010
Neutral. I planted it, and waited for it to appear in the spring, but it had quietly faded away. Boo hoo!! Maybe I should get another and plant it in FULL SUN!!!!
20 Apr, 2010
Ha ha! you never know, but I think that could be a bit risky! ;) My soil is slightly acidic and where the mertensis is it is quite damp and very shady. Perhaps just try a bit of ericaceous mixed in with the planting hole?
20 Apr, 2010
I could send you a bit, if you want to have a 'free' trial?
20 Apr, 2010
That would be very kind, Karen - I'd need instructions, too, after last time! :-0))
20 Apr, 2010
Ha, not sure I can help with instructions B except plant it in a shady, slightly acidic, moisture retaining soil and wait! Anyway, you don't need any instructions from me! I, however, need your address. Send me a PM!
20 Apr, 2010
Thanks, Karen. Just doing it now. :-))
