Tragopogon porrifolius

By Andrewr

Tragopogon porrifolius (Tragopogon porrifolius)

This is salsify, a biennial growing up to three feet in sun and well-drained soil. Originally from southern Europe, it has long been grown as a root vegetable and has naturalised in places in the UK - I have also seen it in the wild in South Africa and Kazahstan!

I'm glad I found this - I've been after it for about three years now. Got it a small NCCPG Plant Fair last weekend. Now I just need it to set seed and self-sow to keep it going
