why has my broccoli seeded i want to know the diference between spears and flower

has it flowered? the flowers are bright yellow. are you confusing the flower buds with seeds. they do sort of look similar.it just seems very early for it to have flowered. The spears are the name give to the flower buds and it is this that we eat.

Welcome to GoY. The purpose of all plants is to produce flowers and seeds. Some of the things we grow for leaf or unopened flower buds (spears) must make lots of growth to give us a reasonable size of 'spear'. Broccolis and similar things go to flower far too quickly while the plants are still tiny if they have poor conditions, such as lack of water, poor soil, or something which is damaging the roots, like cabbage root fly (which just loves broccoli roots!) Always grow your broccoli in a well prepared site, with plenty of space around it (2ft), keep it watered well, and place a cardboard 'square' around the stem when you plant it to stop the cabbage root fly laying its eggs there.
