my apple tree has a cotton wool groth on ends or cut twigs

I live in pembrokeshire the tree is in a small garden and about 30 years old it started last year. meths are a help but it come back. the tree has canker in places. it is a newton wonder apple

My apple trees are having a similar problem, on this site: " http://www.inra.fr/hyppz/pests.htmand " I found out that the problem are the Woolly Aphids.
Washing them away with the hoose helps but I am trying to find out what is best to do.

You do have to keep going, the cure is not instant. Also try Winter Tar oil Wash (substitute) This is a soap based thing and it does dissolve the waxy covering.
