Pruning Juniper

Is there anything special I should know when I'm pruning a Juniper? Mine is a Juniperus chinensis pyramidalis and it's about 1m high.

I agree with Moongrower. I am very wary when I prune the junipers, especially the variegated one. I pruned it with bare hands one time and got a very unpleasant itchy rash. Now I own a small Bosch rechargcheable pruner, due to a wrist problem. This seems to work OK just lightly run over them to keep in check.I pick up the prunings with 2 bits of old hardboard.

I've been pruning one of these today and will be for the next few days (bonsai). I don't use gloves because I need to get well inside the canopy to remove the dead wood and wearing gloves thick enough to stop getting scratched is like trying to prune using your elbows. Yes, pruning "Spiny Norman" can be a pain. The best advice is... take care!
ps. watch out for those dropped clippings.

Just keep it nice and even when you prune and wear something thick with long sleeves and gloves - we used to have a prostrate juniper which I pruned by lifting the visible upper branches and cutting out from underneath, even with gloves and a long sleeved fleece I'd end up with scratches!
