Any advice on growing a sunflower from a seed??

Probably too late to grow this year... sunflowers are already in bloom.

But will it still work if i keep at it and water it ?????????, but i might not have as much luck , r.e. the weather

I'm sorry about this, but even if it does grow, you won't be able to get it to its full height because the winter's coming. If I were you, I'd whip the seeds out the pot, dry them off, and try growing them next Spring instead. Sit them on kitchen paper and leave them to dry off overnight in the house.

Thankyou very very much bamboo i think that that is my solution , in favt i will go an do it now!!!

And when they're dry, wrap them in a bit of foil from the kitchen drawer - but make sure they've completely dried out - might be better to leave them in the open air for a couple of days, as you've planted them once.

I agree with the comments already.

You might get some small plants but by first frost they will wither.

even up here in cold south yorkshire our sunflowers are beginning to flower.

One tip from friends of mine who were running a sunflower competition is you can get loads of cheap seed by buying the seeds intended for bird food. Of course theres no knowing what variety or colour they will be.

Anyway your choice a packet of seeds of known variety about 24 for 2-3 pounds or about 500g of seeds for 3 pounds.

Set yourself a reminder in your diary to plant them next spring.
