I have been given a deep red hydrangea. How can I keep the colour?

If I plant it in the garden it will probably end up a pinky lilac shade. Can I plant it in a large pot and what kind of soil does it need to keep its colour please?

There's a very good explanation about Hydrangea colours on:

There are some that are not pH dependent and will stay the correct colour. I would plant it and see what happens and then if it does turn colour give it the appropriate feed. You can buy the correction mix at garden centres too :o)

I'm looking forward to any answers you might get Jennyliz because just today I saw a beautiful one in a garden close to me. There were several pink ones nearby so this one really stood out.
