coffee grounds

Dorset, United Kingdom

I was in a local coffee shop the other day and they were giving away used coffee grounds for the garden. Can somebody tell me what they are used for please?

They can be used in place of beer in a slug trap.

Yes, just sprinkle round the plants; I've heard its very effective....I think I've heard coffee grounds used for keeping cats off the garden too...not sure about this one!

I have been told they are very good for plants that need ericaceous soil and have used this with good effect on both my lemon tree and azaleas.

I used it round lupins and I think the slugs ate it and had the lupins as the next course.

In theory it 'should' deter the slugs but there are slugs and slugs :-)

And I've got the slugs! Big, fat, black slimy ones with horrid orange underbellies - it's like Jurassic Park out there!
