Ideas for dry deep shade?
Devon, United Kingdom
What I would really love is a hardy geranium. The spot I want to plant is at the base of a red oak; deep shade in summer. Spring bulbs just die off and never come back.
Any ideas GOY?

I too have hardy Geraniums under a Silver Birch and a False Acacia, they seem to love it and flower their heads off!!!

Geranium macrorhizum would be the best one to try. Grows happily under my hazel tree. Keep it watered until it is established, then it thrives on neglect

Thanx SBG. I'll have a look at your planting and I would love a bit of shade-tolerant geranium. What a kind offer.

Thankyou too to SK and Andrew. How happy I now am to know that there are geraniums for dry and heavy shade.

I prefer to plant things like Solomon's Seal and Epimediums in those spots, but have also had good luck with Evergreen Huckleberries. Personally, I prefer native plants from your area because they also support the native wildlife.
