ground cover

I live in Natchez, Ms. Shade trees are blocking out the growth of grass and we have too many bare spots in the yard allowing erosion. What ground cover or grass will grow in the shade? I would prefer something that grows very close to ground that can be easily maintained. Help......

We purchased a contractors choice from Scotts which the key seed "creeping red fesque" plus a small percent of ryes. With an instant lime and starter fertilizer and we , after 16 yrs. of trying, established an awesome lawn everywhere!!!!!! The c. r. fesque once well establised is drought resistant, creeps instead of height. shade and full sun....no difference. Grass uphoria. Finally a full lawn in our NJ yard. good luck
