Pity you don't have a photograph - why not contact the university and ask them? Even if they don't know, they might know a man who does, i.e., whoever looks after their gardens.

I'd ring them and be persistent - but then that's just me! Ask to speak to whoever handles the gardens, or the firm that maintains them
