Paper potato sacks?

WALES, United Kingdom

Can anyone tell me how these work please?

We only planted a small plot of taters this year and although still getting plenty off them, next year we want to grow many more and 'sack them'.

I believe the pots need to be dried out but how long will they stay ok in the paper bags over winter?

Thanks in advance

i know polythene bags make potatos sweat and all veg and potatoes are actualy next years potential plants left in the ground.so if you store them out in the shed in paper bags they will stay good weighting to grow next spring.just dont let them freeze and if one starts to rot dump it or it will spoil the lot.this goes for most root veg.an expert i am not but im sure if you look for a very lnowladgeable plantsman called doctor bob he will answer all your potato questions far better than me .

the paper bags like the soil let the potatos breath like the soil would

OB you don't need to dry your potatoes just lift them and put them in paper or hessian sacks as NP says they need to breath so don't use plastic. Store somewhere cool and dry but don't let them get frosted or they will not taste nice.

Thanks both!

MG: So are you saying the shed may not be a wise place to put them with the frost?

Also, do I need to seal the bags or just fold the tops over?

Sorry but complete novice at this!!

Shed is fine for storage just keep them off the ground and they shouldn't get frosted. Don't seal the bags just fold over the tops.

ironically, those are the ones that aren't to my taste BUT, you're quite right about the diversity of it all and that is where the talent really lies because you are able to think outside your box, as it were!

Nice one mate. I will get through the blogs and pics eventually but with work, the garden AND loads of Goyers to keep up with.......well!
