I have just dug out 15 old shrubs, the soil was awful, building site standard, I have added, 1 ton of topsoil mix with compost, and horse manure, and blood fish and bone, the site is 30 by 8 feet, what else should I mix in with it, I intend to plant grasses, roses, small shrubs and perennials will up date site later thanks

sounds like youve already done plenty to me.

As long as this has all settled ie the horse manure isnt "ripe" as it burns the shrubs, I personally think you have done enough, just remember to water well and often even when it rains after planting

I might add a handful of Growmore or one extra handful of blood fish and bone each time I dig a hole for something new but as others have said you sound to have done a lot already

Agree Inverglen, but not this year - its a bit late for nitrogenous feeds like growmore, though fish blood and bone will be fine.
