Collecting and saving seeds

I have collected seeds from Forget me nots, aquilegia, annual lavatera, nasturtiums and rudbekia all from my garden.

What I don't know is when to plant them - do I plant them straight away, or do I store them for the winter? If I store them - where - do they need cold?

I'm new to gardening and everything is trial and error at the moment!!

Seeds of annuals may be stored cool and dark in paper envelopes over winter for spring sowing.
Aquilegia seeds are best sown fresh for good germination. Sow them now and they will either pop up immediately or in spring. they do not need any heat.

As as for the forget me nots, they're not called that for nothing - if you've had a forget me not in the garden, there'll be loads of seedlings springing up in the soil next year (or even now). Careful how you weed. Same goes for nasturtiums, too.

If you are storing seed to sow next year then they should be kept dry and chilled. Make up small paper or foil packets, label them and keep them in a small box in the fridge.
I would perennials as soon as possible and annuals next spring.

I spent forever collecting seeds these past few weeks...only to stupidly keep then in a plastic sealed bag...they are now mouldy!!!

will try again in paper bags once my eyes have un-crossed

I,m still picking seeds and waiting for others to ripen.
I,ve already planted some aquilegia seeds in the garden and some in a tray too. My nasturtium is only a wee one so i,m going to try to overwinter it.

We are still collecting. Some seed, such as Arisaema and Cyclamen will not be ready until next year.

How do I say thanks?
