Could be sloes - is the bush very thorny? They are also edible but you wouldn't want to eat them - normally used for making sloe gin.

I reckon its sloe - you can tell by trying to eat one - it won't taste very nice...

bilberry bushes don't have thorns and the leaves look different than those in the pick. Suspect it is the blackthorn a relation of hawthorn and producing wonderful sloes for sloe gin.

It's Blackthorn/Sloe (Prunus spinosa). Flowers in the spring just before Hawthorn.

I also go for blackthorn. It flowers early spring before the leaves open. It is a stunning british native hedgerow plant.

It looks like a bilberry bush, are the berries quite tiny and the bush low growing. If it is,they are edible but wait for further confirmation from other members. :)
