Raspberry Joan J - why have the fruits suddenly become small

The plants are between 1 and 3 years old. Each year the individual fruits have been quite large. This year although prolific they are really small. As this was supposed to be a new variety a few years ago, has it reverted.

I don't have any suggestions why the fruits have become small all of a sudden, but I'd be guessing they are quite bitter. I think they'd make nice jam - just something to bear in mind :-)
