is it safe to cut bck a victorier plum trees

i live in luton and my tree is in a south faceing spot. it has grown to tall and wide i would like to cut it down to size but i dont want ti loose it .It gives a good crope every year .Please can you help

Not entirely sure with out seeing it, but it needs to be done before the leaves fall or before they have completely fallen. Pruning of plums shouldn't be done during late autumn, or winter. Or else they can get a disease calle Silver leaf.
