Mother in laws neighbour has asked me to ask how she can do cuttings of russian vine for pots?

On plant Russian vine

I suppose cuttings could be an option but layering might be easier. Bring a shoot down to the ground burying part of the stem and putting a brick or stone on top. The growing end of the shoot should of course re-emerge out the other side and be tied to a cane placed nearby. Don't bury the entire stem lol!

After a year, it should have rooted and can be cut free.

If they have an established plant you will find many pieces that have come down to ground level are rooted. October is the best time to cut them off to make new plants.

As Russian Vine is such a vigorous grower I would no be surprised if ypu could not just push a few new shoots into the soil and leave them to get on with it.

It's a good plant to cover an ugly wall, hideous fence etc. otherwise it's too intrusive.
Nice one, Cliffo, my sentiment exactly.

Cliffo and Stjohntongue, the question was how does she take cuttings to plant in pots.

Hi' Dr Bob, the question was answared befor Stjohntonque and I put our twopenath in,and what we said was a worning, haveing said that , I did plant a cream one under a 25ft hawthorn hedge to grow as it was intended in the wild , the result was that you never noticed it untill the flowers on the hedge died off because shortly after the top of the hedge was coverd in even better flowers, and was a lovly sight that everyone admired, but that was in a big garden and the hedge was part of a wild life corador, I wonder how far it has gone now as that was 6years ago.

Hi Cliffo, I didn't mean any offence by my comment, hope none taken. 6 years eh! that's going to have wandered a fair way by now.

No offence taken Drbob.
With Mookins being new to gardening, both Cliffo and I were trying to get across how prolific and vigorous this plant can grow.
I was also trying to convey how there are many more climbers and vine type plants that are a lot better looking, produce prettier blooms and easier to manage ;-)
