Please can anyone tell me how early can you pick squashes. I have picked two very small fruit from a vertually dead plant, both about eight inches diameter. the colour looks ripe but no centre of seeds. Would this be edible or not? cheers, masie.

I picked some of my squash early this year and they were delicious - not many seeds but absolutely perfect to eat. Agree the weather wasn't ideal this year so the crop was poor but what I have had so far have been very tasty :)
I hope yours cook up ok too!

I pick all my butternuts around now and store them for a couple of months, if they last that long , they are delicious. If you leave them any longer they will not get any bigger anyway, also frost or slugs may damage them.
