I have scorched my lawn by using too much fertilizer. Is there anything I can do

I did not read the directions on the lwan fertilizer. (which I put down because of brown patches and bare patches)
Now I have patches of scorched grass. Is there anything I can do and will the grass grow again?

rain is the answer as Lily said , if you knew soon after your spreding then the sprinkler as first aid, but with this rain now let the rain sort it out.

If you're not having much rain, put as much water on it as possible - it'll help to wash the fertilizer away, if you only recently put it on. I could ask why you applied fertiliser at this time of year, but I won't, you're in enough trouble by the sound of it;-((

I've just used something called Autumn Feed Bamboo after scarifying as the book said. Why is that wrong? Am I in trouble too!!

No, that's fine Lily2 - autumn feed is designed for use at this time of year. It's the other Lawn feeds that shouldn't be used past a certain point in the year, and it says that on the box. It's to do with the nitrogen content and how its formulated.

hi there, I have purchased some autumn feed for my lawn from Scotts and it says that it does not scorch the grass. A little expensive £22.00 to cover 400sq metres will let you know how I go on with it.

I'll be interested in how you get on with it Flowermanx being as I find it impossible to apply without scorching. Does it have mosskiller in it.? Ithink it's that which scorches but I may be wrong in that. I didn't really need the mosskiller but couldn't find an autumn feed that didn't have it

What scorches the grass is the high nitrogen content, plus the weedkillers in Lawn Feed, Weed and Mosskiller - the autumn one contains no weedkillers, and lower and much more slow releasing level of nitrogen. You'd have to pour the box in a small area to get the scorch effect with the Autumn one.

What are the dark patches that have appeared after applying autumn feed and mosskiller then Bamboo? Is it the moss killer blackening the grass from uneven application? There is no moss to kill so its definitely the grass which is blackened

The Scotts autumn lawn feed is just a very slow feed. It strengthens the roots and stop weak new grass growing which yellows in the late spring frosts. it is supposedly the best autumn feed on the market ( lets see eh )

There will have been moss that you may not have been aware of, but if you've really got black grass I'd like to see a photo of it (how much did you use?!)

Not excessive Bamboo but rather uneven I think. Rather dark for nipping out and taking a pic now but will have a go tomorrow!

welcome to GoY Josephine. My grass is looking exactly the same and it's not the first time it's happened either! Try as I might, I cannot seem to get it on evenly but I've found that the grass recovers quite quickly. It does depend of course on just how badly it is scorched as you may end up with more bare patches which you would need to resow with seed. Give it a while and see if it recovers, mine is looking much better after the recent rain.
