Should I deadhead my Platycodon Grandiflorus?

United Kingdom

I live in London and grew this beautiful plant this summer (2009) in pots. However, it didn't flower all season, as the books suggest it should. Was I meant to deadhead the flowers?

To force any plant to produce more flowers one needs to remove the dying flowers before they start to go to seed. It does not work for all plants, however. It might for Platycodon, but I have to say I never bother dead heading ours. Mind I have ended up with dozens of self seeded ones all over the place. Strangely enough, despite having pink and white as well, all the seedlings so far are blue.

How do I say thanks?
