Can anyone advise what shrubs might be suitable for this part-shady area that I've just cleared?

I'd like to know what the trees are which are in that bed already, please? Any Birch, beech or Cherry?

Hellebores, Pulmonarias, Hostas, Aquelegias, Alchemilla mollis, lots of autumn flowering Cyclamen. Or Pieris (is the soil acidic or chalky?), Azaleas, dwarf Rhodos, Hydrangeas. Lots to choose from, try to have a sucession of colour, and how about an Acer dissectum for autumn colour?

You might have a problem getting any other new shrubs established in that bed if the above mentioned trees are present.
