No, me neither Romneya........I have a young golden Escallonia...Gold Ellen.....which has deep rose coloured sprays at the tips of the branches during summer.....but no pods.

The fruits/seed pods are small dry capsules at the back of the flower. I agree that I don't know of any distinctive feature of the seed pods that you suggest so am wondering if you mean the flowers?
Most are lovely irrespective of the colour though a personal favourite is E. 'Edinensis' with reddish-pink flowers and a particularly graceful habit too.

I was visiting a garden (abriachan on loch ness) about a month ago.I saw this bush with lovely dangly orange/red seed clusters and I asked the guy what it was. He said it was an escallonia. He didn't have any for sale, but he gave me some seed. It certainly had small glossy leaves like on escallonia. Maybe he was mistaken, but the guy really knows his stuff. I've planted them and I wanted to put the right name on the label. I wish I'd taken a photo. If anyone is ever in that neck of the woods, Abriachan is really worth a visit. Its a garden centre with 5 acre display garden terraced into the hillside. magic.

I've planted and grown several different varieties of Escallonia - I can't say I've ever noticed any seed pods, never mind whether they're pretty or not.
