my cordyline has fallen over and wont stand up by itself will it be ok if i repot it or are the roots too badly damaged

I'd certainly repot into a bigger pot and plant as deeply as you can but dont cover the base of the foliage too much. reall firm it in. If you can weight the pot down with stones, it will help with drainage too.
