Hello , I have had an offer of a well mature Pieris (20 years old plus). Would you recommend even trying to get this out of the ground or would the risk of damage be too great. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

If you have lots of time you could try the tree nurseryman's method, which takes three years. You cut the roots back on one side the first year, and a lot of thinner fibrous roots should grow instead of the old thick ones. The following year do the same on the other side. Then the third year you cut the tap root and away you go.

Think you are highly unlikely to move this successfully. Bulba and I have taken out younger specimens than this and always broken the roots in doing so.
