I have a beautiful ceanothus (now tree) grown from a 50cm single cutting 15 years ago. It has vibrant deep blue/lavender flowers in May but the top has become wide and bushy. When would be a good time to prune? It is in a sheltered position near the house in a mild west country climate. Thanks

I agree with Alice as your ceanothus is a spring flowering one early June.

I think i remember reading somewhere...remove one third of the shoots after they have flowered...:>)

The best time would be after flowering.
