My Acer Bloodgood only has leaves on one side of the tree this year. The branches had the tiny red shoots but they never opened just dried up. I have never had any problems in all the years I have had it ( about 18 ). Any ideas please ..

I would be tempted to wait. It might be die back but it might just be slow at leafing.

Hi Nanjo, I would think that the cold north easterly winds that we had a few weeks ago have damaged that side of the tree, and the other side has been a little more sheltered, it will probably start to produce leaves later in the year, you can scrape a little bark off with your thumb nail to check if it's still green underneath, if not cut back to where it is still green and wait, Derek.
