My mum gave me two pots of Festuca glauca last summer but they are looking a bit tatty now after the winter. Do they respond well to having a good 'haircut'?

I have to say that for festuca glauca that's not bad after winter. They can look awful, and I've seen many much worse. Just run your fingers through its hair, tease out the old browned blades, and the new growth should soon be growing up to hide any brown bits that are left.
