Certainly centaurea. Perennial plant for mid-summer (nowadays 24th June to about 5th or 6th July!). Hardy, and generally best in the sun.

Or in laymans terms, perennial cornflower. If you keep on dead heading the flowers you will get loads more and the bees adore them.

Welcome to the site. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I haven't been here long and spend hours just looking at all the lovely gardens. I used to go out and visit open gardens, but this is better and you can do it anytime!
The centaurea is one I found in our garden when we moved which pleased me as my Mother always had it in hers, so reminds me of her. They do tend to flop a bit, but can be staked with bamboo and if they get brown and tatty looking stems, just cut them off and they will shoot again. Keep dead-heading as this encourages the flowers, a lovely blue and bumblebees blunder about in them and are fun to watch. Great fun having a new garden, just waiting to see what comes up, if there are bulbs etc.

Thanks everyone, I do have loads of them, it seems that's all in the garden, wasn't sure if should get rid of them or keep them....but now I guess can save some dead heads and clear out some.
