Yes, they will dry out and die. I would plant them somewhere now and see whar happens. If you mark where you have put them you can lift them in the summer to be planted somewhere else.

Or plant them in pots - you might get a few flowers - then you can plant them out in the autumn. Don't let the pots freeze, though, if we get another cold period.
