I was watching reruns of Keeping Up Appearances recently, and I noticed that the weather was fair in every episode - and also then realised, that's how it used to be here in the south, not all through the summer, but quite a bit. And now, well, its cold, dull and not summery at all. I'd forgotten quite how a proper summer should be, and its depressing to think this change in our season might be permanent.

I am with you Anchorman. I like it cool too. I hate the hot sun. I had enough of it in my younger years and it is not as pleasant and healthy as many people may think.
Not another 1976 please.

Not too hot, but rather better than this year - weatherman please note.

Oh come on you lot - I don't like it when its hot (over 24 degrees), specially in London, but yesterday it was hot and muggy, still with no/very little sun. That has to be the worst option of all. I miss the sunlight enormously... if I ever get well enough, I'm off to make up the deficit somewhere sunny for a few days.

Relocate to Pembs Bamboo - we've had some lovely sunshine in between all the wet days.

Now stop complaining. This is England, a maritime climate. It always rains at some point during Wimbledon, and yes, the grass was hot under your feet at some point during August. I love the humid days, the still warm evenings are perfect for quietly enjoying a beer, or a glass of wine, while you watch a large slug slowly crossing the lawn towards the vegetables. (Plenty of time for another beer, it hasn't reached the lettuce yet). Enjoy it all for its unpredictability - you'd get bored by eternal sunshine. The dank and cold bits serve as a foil against which the nice times shine. Like a yew hedge behind a good flower border!

Your words revive those memories of our weather down the years, worthy, but sadly, not recent years. I've lived here for thirteen years, and in the last five of those, I'd estimate at least a tripling of high winds, occurring also in summer, which we rarely/never got before. Not to mention consistently being on the wrong side of the jet stream, which causes poor summer weather. Even more worrying is the evidence of climate change worldwide, so the kind of days you describe seem rare these days. Perhaps cooler summers with more cloud will be our lot in these islands now, but I shouldn't complain really, it beats hurricanes, tornadoes, firestorms and all the other extremes other places are seeing an increase in. but oh, I do so miss a decent summer....
