Hi
I have grown tomatoes for many years but this year I have a great crop but they are taking for ever to ripen. I am sure by this time I am usually picking lovely red tomatoes. Is this a problem for this year? I am growing them in a green house

I have the first ones turning this weekend. It is due to the cooler weather as previously mentioned.

Thanks for the advice. I have hopes for a good crop then.

I,m doing a bit of a test this year and have 6 cordon varieties, the newer smaller cherry type sungold, golden sunrise and sweet 100 have been slowly ripening over the last few weeks so we have been eating them for a while now but alicante, ailsa craig and shirley are fruiting well but not at all ready to ripenthe patio ones....and I say that loosely.....venus is cropping slowly whereas 100&1000's has gone potty! Sprawling all over the place and the biggest widest truss I have ever seen!......and all turning red!
Its been fascinating as up to now they all have a slightly different flavour

That sounds fun. I must admit I do stick to the old varieties but my neighbour grows some new sorts so we swap "goods" .

Someone else asked this yesterday - try putting one or two ripe ones near a bunch of green ones, or failing that try banana skins - they give off a gas which starts them into action. Once you get one or two ripe the rest will follow. So don't remove the first ripe one until another has started to turn or you'll have to start over!

Ah, temptation - can resist everything except that

Don't forget we had rotten weather until this heat wave - which has only been with us for a few weeks, so they have a lot to catch up on. I've got some in pots in a sunny place in the garden and have only got a few flowers and no fruit.
