My strawberries are growing in hanging baskets. What I do is to put some compost in cling film and wrap the cling film around the runner just under the leaves. I secure the cling film with a small elastic band or a couple of bits of wire. They will hang down outside the hanging basket and the compost remains damp sealed inside the cling film. The warm sun helps them to root in 7 -10 days after which I just cut them off and plant them on. I've grown so many that I give most of them away now.

I peg them down as baskets are beside raised bed of fruit.
Or if you dont want any more I would prune them back.
