I have just planted an actinidia kolomikta where I previously had one which had died. The old one was 14 years old and just died suddenly one year. I have revitalised the soil and watered it well but it has just died on me. Are they like roses and you can't plant one where there was one before?

Its death may be due to cats! They love to rub against them, and probably killed it. If you try another one, give it some sort of protection such as a cage of rigid plastic mesh so they can't get at it

I just googled it and Wikipedia say the same as Andrew......

You can read it for yourself, I was very suprised that they find it so attractive to the point of it dying!

Thanks very much both of you. Yes, I was aware of the cat problem but we don't have cats and live in the middle of nowhere! Has anyone tried to plant one where there was one before? Deborah
