About photos...
Is there a way of uploading photos in the members' area that doesn't turn the photos on their side? I'm uploading from an ipad.
I want a timeline for my new 'garden' (legal wheels grinding very slooooooooowly)

Hi Urbanite, I think because with an i-pad it doesn't matter which way you hold it, the pics could be upside down or sideways, it's different if you take pics with a camera, and load them onto your pc and take them from there, this is only my reasoning, I don't have an i-pad to know for sure 1 way or the other, Derek.

Have you tried holding the ipad differently - try it all ways up and see if one of them works

I've noticed that most of the pictures that have been uploaded from people asking questions appear sideways. I'm sure that they can't always be because they are using I-pads. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has some idea about how to get this right?

Are you taking the pics in Portrait, or Landscape angle with the iPad? Try a Landscape one, post it, and see if that helps.

Yes just tried landscape and, appropriately for a gardening forum, it works. I'll try from a PC when I'm in work on Monday.

I reported the issue of "photos on their sides" to the site owners some weeks ago . They replied that they've had the techie's look in to it but it appears they can't find a solution

I found a solution to this problem when using my new laptop. I use Picasa to view all my pictures and they always come out the right way. However when uploading here the site uses what is the default picture program in windows 8. Even when the picture looks the correct way up it doesn't always upload here that way. If the picture on here appears the wrong way round I delete it from GOY, open windows picture editor, which will show the image the correct way up. I rotate the image 90° then save, open it back up and rotate it back. Once it's saved a 2nd time it uploads correctly. It only takes a matter of seconds.
That's ok for individual pics for the question or garden page but very long drawn out affair if it's for a blog.
Might be worth having a go on other devices.
As an aside but I'm sure most of you will know this but there should be a facility to turn of screen rotation on ipad or tablets.

I had this problem with a picture my daughter emailed me. She had taken it with her phone. It was aligned correctly in the email. I couldn't get it to upload the right way no matter how I saved it to my computer, or rotated it in Picasa - every time, it came out on its side. I never have that problem with my own photos.

Hmm Windows - that explains a lot!

its only portrait photos on here that turn to landscape, they used to be fine but at some point on here this year they just turned... i suggest to everyone to just take landscape photos.

Would you believe it I just put the same problem to my know-all daughter in California ? People keep telling my photos arrive wrongly ( I have an ipad ) if she can't help I'll go to the Apple store in Manchester and ask them.
Will report back soon.
