Sorry. Yes I meant to say 2-3 feet. It is South facing and gets sun most of the day
I want some ideas of what I could plant in these two borders, please.
Thanks, Eliana

I've just noticed you asked an earlier question, which says these borders are flanking borders - does that mean they're either side of a path, perhaps heading towards the front door? And what happened to the lavender you planted there, because that seems like a good choice, although they do need clipping over twice a year and replacing about every five years.

Yes my borders do lead up to the front door.
I had lavender in the borders for about 4 years. I only had 1 year when it was successful and although it would need replacing next year, I am rather wary, of trying again, hence the question of what else to plant

Well, we've had some very damp and dull weather during the time your lavender has been planted - last summer and the winter before became collectively known as the 18 month winter in some parts of the country. Lavender likes the sort of weather we've had recently - hot, sunny and fairly dry. Its difficult to think of a single plant you can use for the whole of the border/s other than buxus microphyllus - how long are the borders and do you particularly want just one variety of plant? What part of the country are you in?

I don't mind a mixed border. My border length is approximately 10'
I live in West Yorkshire. The Pennines.
Thank you.

Hmm, so a colder part of the country. Can't think of much apart from these - Buxus suffruticosa, Euonymus microphyllus (variegated, two varieties, one cream and one yellow variegated). Neither grown for their flowers. If you don't mind deciduous and prickly, Berberis thunbergii atropurpureum 'nana', or a mix of that and the Euonymus.

Thank you for your help.

I think you must mean you can widen your borders to two feet (2') and not two inches (2"). I'd also query the south facing description - a south facing garden gets sun nearly all day, unless it is blocked by something very large opposite. If it gets sun in the afternoon, its more likely to be west facing. Other than that, its not clear from your question what you're asking about - are you asking what you can plant? You can respond by clicking in the box below, as if you're answering your own question.
